Enforcement of new virus restrictions begin around Australia

Australians across the country can now face six months in jail and fines in excess of $1,000 for flouting new rules aimed at stopping the spread of coronavirus.

From Tuesday, police in most states and territories - with the exception of the Northern Territory and South Australia - began enforcing directives given by the Federal Government to limit public gatherings to two people.

The New South Wales government is urging the community to keep social gatherings to a minimum and obey new regulations as the number of confirmed COVID-19 cases across the state passes 2,000.
