Greek Community of Sydney representatives meet with Greek Minister

The head of Sydney's Greek Festival Nia Karteris and board members of the Greek Community, Con Apoifis and Molly Chiotis met yesterday with Deputy Foreign Minister of Greece Antonis Diamaris, whose cabinet portfolio concerns Greeks abroad.

The Greek Australians congratulated Mr Diamataris, on his appointment, and Ms Karteris briefed him on the cultural events taking place during the Greek Festival of Sydney.

They also discussed ways to coordinate special celebrations to mark the 200 year anniversary of the Greek Independence Revolution.

The right of Greek expatriates to vote from their place of residence was also discussed. The board members of the Greek Community of Sydney, also highlighted the shortages of Greek language teachers and the bureaucratic hurdles they face in their dealings with Greek government authorities in Australia.
