Emergency services were called to Shoalhaven Zoo this [Friday] morning, around 10.30 a.m. after a female employee was attacked by a lion.
The zookeeper, in her 30s, was bitten on the head and neck area and left in critical condition.
As per the latest update available, she was being treated by parademics in order to stabilise her before being flown to Sydney’s St George hospital in Kogarah.
Multiple ambulances and police have been called to the scene.
No comment has been made by the Shoalhaven Zoo so far, which has been closed to the public since March 25 due to coronavirus restrictions.
This is not the first incident of an employee being attacked at the Shoalhaven Zoo.
In 2014, a crocodile had injured a worker who was trying to lure the animal with a piece of meat in front of around 60 spectators.
The man survived the attack with minor injuries.
