Socceroos coach Bert van Marwijk trims squad

Defender Bailey Wright and in-form Hibernian hitman Jamie Maclaren are the biggest names to be culled from Bert van Marwijk's Socceroos squad for the World Cup.

Van Marwijk has trimmed the 32-man squad he named last week to 26 ahead of a pre-tournament training camp in Turkey starting this weekend, with the final 23 to be announced on June 3.

Maclaren and Wright learned they had suffered the cruellest of cuts last week, with Tuesday's public announcement confirming their bad news.

Van Marwijk has retained bolters Daniel Arzani, Fran Karacic and Dimitri Petratos along with veteran striker Tim Cahill.
