The 'Café Dreaming: Greek Café & Milk Bar Style' object-based exhibition, curated by Effy Alexakis and Leonard Janiszewski with the assistance of Rosanna Luca, in partnership with the Australian History Museum - Macquarie University was launched earlier this week and opened by Mr Christos Karras, Consul-General of Greece.

Style was an essential element of Australia’s Greek cafés and milk bars. The exhibition features rare, unique and diverse Greek café and milk bar tableware, décor and uniforms, spanning the period 1920s through to the 1960s and aims to provide an insight into the lost world of food-catering décor wonder.
A new world of visual delight provided Australians with a taste of the American Dream – the fantasy of a life-style that was better, richer, fuller.
Among the exhibits are a restored 1950s espresso machine, original uniform & mirror, objects from the earliest milk bar, over 100 badged silverware and crockery items and original signage designed by Leonard French.
The exhibition is open to the public until Wednesday, 30th May at the Macquarie University Library Exhibition Space. Library Opening Hours are: Mon-Fri, 8am – 10pm; Sat-Sun, 10am – 6pm
