The first Greek-Australian Indigenous man: George Pappas: What we know
In 1814, George Papas was born in colonial Sydney. He was recorded as a "Man of Colour", a part Indigenous Australian whose father may have been a visiting Greek sailor (Greeks, particularly Ionian islanders, were conspicuous as crewmen on British vessels). If so, then Papas was the start of a Greek presence in Australia. A chat with historian Leonard Janiszewski.
