US man drowns after underwater marriage proposal

An American man has drowned after proposing underwater to his girlfriend in Tanzania.

Steven Weber Jr and his girlfriend Kenesha Antoine were on holidays on Pembla Island and staying in a submerged cabin when Mr Weber popped the question on Thursday.

Ms Antoine posted a video on Facebook showing the moment Mr Weber, a Louisiana resident, swam up to the bedroom and held up a handwritten note to the window.

"I can't hold my breath long enough to tell you everything I love about you. But everything I love about you I love more every day!" it read.
