Every year, International Coffee Day is celebrated on 1st October. It is an annual celebration by the International Coffee Organisation. This year's theme is “Women in Coffee”.
This celebration aims to share the coffee’s journey from the farm to a local shop.
It is interesting to know that many countries have their own National Coffee Days. For example, Brazil celebrates on 24 May, the USA it is on 29 September. 1st October was chosen as the International Coffee Organisation, the Member countries of the International Coffee Organization and their coffee associations.

Coffee has some bioactive ingredients and numerous health benefits. At the beginning of the year, a research was conducted by the Harvard school of public health on over 520000 people, and other supportive research has also been published over advantages of drinking coffee for various ethnic groups.
The study suggests a person should drink up to 3 cups a day or 300mg to get the advantage.
According to Dr Alap, "If we see the topic - Ayurveda and Coffee, Ayurveda is based on the three Dosha, to maintain the health, it is essential to keep the balance between these three by taking a balanced diet. Coffee falls under the pitta genic food category, means it generates heat and acid in the body. As per Ayurveda coffee can be consumed in moderation. As Coffee is pitta food, it produces alertness affects the ambition and aggressiveness, these qualities are necessary for us in a small amount."

Lower risk of heart problems
According to Ms Reinaa, a study conducted a Germany's Heinrich-Heine-University’s Medical Faculty showed that drinking three to four cups of coffee could enhance the function of heart cells as well as help to recover from a heart attack. Coffee also promotes movement of a regulatory protein which increases their capacity to protect cardiovascular cells from damage.
Reduced risk of liver disease
Ms Reinaa shared that coffee may also reduce the risk of liver diseases. "Drinking coffee is linked with up to a 40 per cent risk reduction of liver disease and liver cancer compared to not drinking coffee, while some research suggests that drinking coffee is consistently has a strong connection with a reduced risk of cirrhosis, with a potential risk reduction of between 25 and 70 per cent."
Lowered risk of Type 2 Diabetes
Ms Reinaa shared that it is also good to know that that drinking coffee may reduce the risk of Type 2 Diabetes about a 22%.
Live Longer
"As said above, Coffee is rich in antioxidants. It is a mild stimulant, so it helps the brain to be active and alert. Coffee also boosts metabolism, so its seen to be advantageous in Alzheimer’s and Parkinson’s diseases both connected with neural function. However, the study also shows benefits of heart diseases, stroke and liver diseases, in a way help to increase the longevity and increase life years." says Reinaa.
Ms Reinaa added, " also a study presented at European Society of Cardiology (ESC) Congress suggests that Mediterranean coffee drinkers may benefit from a lower risk of death. The researchers studied about 20,000 adults who consumed three to four cups of coffee per day."
