Out of the 195 countries featured on the Me Too Rising map, India is currently at the top of the list of Google searches of the #MeToo movement.

The movement against sexual harassment and sexual assault went viral last year, uncovering stories of decades of sexual misconduct against women, from politicians, media professionals to celebrities and industry professionals.

The map is a visualisation of data from Google Trends and shows that #MeToo has been searched across 195 nations and 300 cities in the world, highlighting the top five cities that are researching the #MeToo movement the most.

The top five cities of Cuttack, Bhanwreli, Sambalpur, Ujjain and Dewas are all in India, making the country shine brighter than any other country on the map.

The campaign has been hitting Indian headlines recently after Bollywood actress Tanushree Dutta accused famous actor Nana Patekar of misbehaving with her during the shooting of one of her films in 2008.
Ever since then, the #MeToo movement in the Indian media and entertainment industry have been rocketed by accusations of sexual harassment against celebrities and famous personalities of the industry.

According to Google Trends, every country of the world has searched for the #MeToo movement, but India, with a population of over 1.3 billion people, is leading the way in numbers.

Google launched the map in April during Sexual Assault Awareness Month. The map does not measure the total number of searches but records the number of times #MeToo is searched compared to other searches on the given day.

On the 12 of October, all of the top cities in the world where #MeToo was searched were located in India and this happened again on 13th, 14th and 17th October.

Despite having 1.4 billion of population, no searches have been recorded in China as Google is banned there.
