The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has named the 18-member squad for the four-match Test series against Australia, scheduled to begin from 6th December 2018.
The All India Senior Selection Committee met in Pune to pick the national side for the upcoming tour of Australia and T20I series against the West Indies.
Opener Rohit Sharma and wicket-keeper batsman Parthiv Patel have been added to India's test squad. They were not in the squad which played five test matches in England. Meanwhile, Murli Vijay, who had a poor outing against England, has been included in the squad for the Australia tour.
Twenty-one-year-old wicket-keeper Rishabh Pant and batsman Hanuma Vihari, who made their Test debuts in England, have also been included in the squad.
Meanwhile, the selectors have also announced the team for 3 T20I matches against Australia starting from 21st November. Surprisingly, the former Indian captain and wicket-keeper batsman MS Dhoni has been excluded from the squad. While Baroda all-rounder Krunal Pandya made his way into the 16-member team.
Asking about MS Dhoni's exclusion for the T20I matches against Australia, Chief Selector MSK Prasad said, "MS Dhoni has been "rested" and India is now looking to fill in the second wicket-keeper's slot."
"We want to try out other keepers for the second keeper's slot," said MSK Prasad.
India will play three T20Is, four Tests and three One Day International matches against Australia this summer. The exciting cricketing summer will start with the T20I series.
