Small Business Showcase, a one-stop support for small businesses launched

The Small Business Showcase is a resource provided by the Fair Work Ombudsman to equip small business owners with the tools and information they need to manage workplace relations issues confidently.

The Fair Work Ombudsman has launched its Small Business Showcase, a one-stop resource with information and tips to run a small business.

The Fairwork ombudsman's helpline has received more than 500,000 calls since it was launched in 2013 from small business owners wanting information about their workplace obligations.

Fair Work Ombudsman Natalie James says, “Australia’s workplace relations system is complex and can be hard to navigate, particularly for time-poor small and family businesses.”

The website provides information on the topics such as hiring employees, calculating pay, keeping accurate records and resolving workplace issues,

There are also has instructional videos which explain how small business owners can use the resources to meet their commitment or responsibility as an employer.
The Fair Work Ombudsman warns that under the Fair Work Amendment (Protecting Vulnerable Workers) Act 2017  the maximum penalty for failing to keep employee records or issue pay slips has doubled to $63,000 for a company and $12,600 for an individual, and the maximum sentence for knowingly making or keeping false or misleading employee records to $12,600 for an individual.

The resources are free and available in multiple languages.
