The body of a young girl found with brutal injuries.

Thousands have marched in the streets of Ahmedabad, Surat and other cities calling for an end to sexual violence against women after the rape and murder incidences in India.

India is struggling with the issue of violence against girl child and rape; another horrific incident has emerged from Surat

A Surat resident has found the body of an eleven-year-old girl last week. There were injuries on the body, so 108 emergency service was called. The postmortem report revealed that the girl was raped and tortured for at least eight days. There were 86 injury marks on her body. She was strangled to death.

Police have registered a case of rape and also booked the unidentified accused under The Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act. Surat Police launched a massive operation to find an identity of the girl.  Police have also announced s reward of Rs 20,000 to anyone who has information on girl’s identity.  Around 1,200 posters have also been circulated across the city for this purpose. Police have also announced a helpline number 9081991100 to get any information about the victim.

 

Police is examining the data of 8,000 missing girls in Gujarat and other surrounding states, but they did not get any success to have any identity of the victim.  Polic Commissioner Satish Sharma told reporters. “The girl may be from Orissa or surrounding states. Photograph and information about the girl has been sent to Orissa, West Bengal, Madhya Pradesh, Bihar and other states,”

Mr Tushar Ghelani, a builder from Surat, has announced Rs 5-lakh prize to anyone who can provide specific information on the victim.


In the wake of incidents of rape in Unnao, Kathua and Surat, protests were staged in various parts of  Gujarat on Sunday.
