Actor Pratik Gandhi has been around the Gujarati movie and theatre scene for quite some time now. But his portrayal of Harshad Mehta in a web series has put him on the map.
"I started off as an Engineer. I used to work during the day and practice and act in plays by night," Pratik recalls.
He gradually got into Gujarati movies too. But his love for theatre kept him performing in both mediums. He went on to act in a National Award-winning film, multi-lingual plays and critically acclaimed projects.
"Honestly, I picked up whatever projects came my way. But I am proud of my journey and am thrilled to see this show get so much love around the world," says Pratik.
The one-liners in his recent web series Scam 1992 have become a favourite among audiences and are trending on social media as well.
"My favourite is - Success kya hain, failure ke baad ka chapter," mentions Pratik.
The series is based on a book written by Indian journalists Sucheta Dalal and Debashis Basu. These journalists had exposed the Harshad Mehta financial scam in 1992 and thereafter, went on to write a book about it.
Along with nostalgic views of Mumbai, India from the late 80s and early 90s, the show also aimed at portraying the Gujarati community aptly.
"Hansal sir and I have always felt that the portrayal of Gujaratis has rarely been accurate. Nobody talks with a peculiar accent even in our villages. So, we both had decided that no character or its characteristic will be caricaturish in this series.", adds Pratik.
Directed by National Award winner, Hansal Mehta, the series and Pratik's performance have been winning accolades ever since its release.
