Tax office to act on inactive super accounts with low balances

A Productivity Commission investigation into the superannuation system has found about 10 million unintended multiple accounts. From July the 1st, the Australian Tax Office will get new powers to track down these inactive super accounts.


The federal government's Productivity Commission has delivered a damning report into Australia's superannuation system. 

The report has recommended sweeping changes, where workers would be steered towards an approved list of 10 default providers picked by an expert panel.
