Why 1st May was chosen as the foundation day of Gujarat?

Mahagujarat Andolan was a movement demanding the creation of the state of Gujarat for Gujarati-speaking people from the bilingual Bombay state. It succeeded in the formation of Gujarat, as well as Maharashtra state, on 1 May 1960. Mr. Arun Mehta, whose parents Mr. Subodh Mehta and Smt. Niruben Patel were very active leaders in this movement, shares important events. He also explained why 1st May was chosen as a Gujarat Foundation Day.
