Memorable moments from India v Pakistan matches in ICC Cricket World Cup

1992 Cricket World Cup, Sydney

The first time India and Pakistan met in a World Cup match was at the Sydney Cricket Ground on March 4, 1992. India defeated Pakistan by 43 runs. The match is not only remembered for India's win but also for Pakistan's Javed Miandad's mocking of India's Kiran More. It became an iconic image of cricketing rivalry between the two countries.

1996 Cricket World Cup, Bangalore

The second encounter between India and Pakistan took place in the Quarter-Final match on March 9, 1996, at Bangalore's M. Chinnaswamy Stadium. India won the match by 39 runs.

There were a few controversial moments during the match but one that stands out was between Pakistan's Aamir Sohail and India's Venkatesh Prasad. Chasing India's 288 runs target, Pakistan had a good start and quickly put 100 on the board.
Opener Sohail successfully attacked Prasad's loose deliveries, when he sent one of the balls for the boundary, pointed to the region with the bat and gesturing, "Go, take the ball".

Sohail tried to repeat the hit on the next ball but Prasad came up with a unique delivery and comprehensively bowled Sohail out.

1999 Cricket World Cup, Manchester

India and Pakistan met each other for the third time in the 1999 cricket World Cup match at Old Trafford in Manchester, England. India continued their winning streak against Pakistan in the World Cup as strong bowling helped India win the low scoring match by 47 runs.

This was India's third consecutive win against Pakistan at the World Cup.

2003 World Cup, Centurion, South Africa

India and Pakistan's fourth clash was on March 1, 2003, at Centurion in South Africa. This time batting first, Pakistan scored 273 runs but a match-winning knock from India's Master Blaster Sachin Tendulkar 98 (75) helped India win the match by six wickets.

Cricket fans across the globe remember this historic run chase with Sachin's iconic six to Shoaib Akhtar over backward point.
