Photographs of Murtaza Ahmadi started doing the rounds on Twitter before he was identified as the little Afghan boy living in Taliban controlled area of the war-torn country.
Murtaza’s elder brother Humayun (15) made his little brother a t-shirt from a plastic bag with Messi’s name and number written on it. He then shared the photos on Facebook which soon went viral.
News Agency AFP tracked down little Murtaza who said, “I love Messi, he plays well, the shirt was made by my brother and I liked it very much. We do not have a football playground near our house, and the only ball I have is punctured. I want to be like Messi, when I grow up.”

International Media reports that Murtaza will soon be meeting his football star – Messi. Reports suggest that the football star has been in communication with the Afghanistan Football Federation (AFF) to set up a meeting.
"The management of the [AFF] has received emails from Lionel Messi and FC Barcelona regarding the meeting," spokesman Syed Ali Kazemi told news agency EFE.
In a post on its website, the AFF confirmed they had contacted the football star, saying it would "soon arrange Messi's meeting with Murtaza".
