The Indian Government for the first time has appointed a woman as the head of any paramilitary force in the country. According to News Agency PTI Senior IPS officer Archana Ramasundram has been appointed Director General of Sashastra Seema Bal (SSB). Archana Ramasundram (58) is the first woman police officer to be appointed Director General of any paramilitary force in the history of Independent India. The Sahstra Seema Bal (SSB) guards India's borders with Nepal and Bhutan.
According to PTI Archana Ramasundram, who has previously been the Director of National Crime Records Bureau (NCRB) before this appointment, is the first female head of any of the five paramilitary forces in India. India's paramilitary forces include the Border Security Force (BSF), Central Industrial Security Force (CISF), Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF), Indo- Tibetan Border Police and Sahastra Seema Bal (SSB).
