Frankston line commuters will have to deal with delays as major part of the route will be closed for more than a month to remove three level crossings.
Buses will replace trains for 37 days between Caulfield and Moorabbin as work is undertaken to remove the three level crossings.
The work is schedule to begin on June 24th and go on till July 31st.
Commuters have been advised to allow an extra 20 to 30 minutes for their trips during that period.
Public Transport Minister Jacinta Allan said passengers should expect longer journey times while train services were suspended but said replacement buses would “broadly reflect” the train timetable.
"Obviously that will cause some disruption for passengers," she said.
"At the end of that construction blitz, though, those level crossings will be removed, making it safer, making it less congested for everybody."
The bulk of the work has been planned during school holidays and surrounding roads will remain open during construction work.
In addition to Frankston line, Trains will also be replaced by buses on the Stony Point line from June 25 to July 31 because those trains will be unable to reach Southern Cross for maintenance, Fairfax Media reported.
Sections of the Belgrave-Lilydale line will be closed from July 2 to July 10 before major construction works there later this year.
