55-year-old Australian woman Tiudt Sharne Ann has died in Vrindavan in India, police said on Tuesday.

Ms Ann was a devotee of Lord Krishna and was associated with ISKCON in Vrindavan, India.

She had gone to India on a 5-year tourist visa in 2015 and used to look after stray cows in Vrindavan town, local police said.

On Monday, she was driving her scooter when she was hit by a tractor. The tractor driver fled the scene and Ms Ann died on the spot.

Police have registered a complaint against the driver for negligent driving and has impounded the vehicle.

The Indian Express reported that Australian Embassy in India had been notified and Ms Ann's last rites will be performed in India.

Local police said the victim was survived by a brother.
