A pregnant mother gave birth on a flight from Singapore to Yangon in Burma.

The mother has named her son Jet Star in honour of the flight crew who helped her deliver the child.

Asia One reported that Saw Jet Star, 2.9kg, was born during the three-hour Jetstar Asia flight.

There were three doctors on board who helped the flight attendants guide the woman through labour.

The proud mother’s family name is Star and decided on-spot to name her baby Saw Jet Star to honour both the airline and Jetstar customer service manager Saw Ler Htu.

On arrival at Yangon Airport the pair were taken to hospital and are said to be doing well.

Jetstar Asia has offered $1000 in baby supplies to the new mum and flight vouchers to the doctors who helped during the birth.

"Proud of the way (the crew) assisted with the help of generous doctors on board to ensure the safe delivery of our youngest ever passenger on a flight," said a spokesperson for the airline.

Jetstar policy is to allow women up to 40 weeks pregnant to travel with them on flights no longer than four hours but a medical certificate must be obtained if the mother is more than 28 weeks pregnant.
