UPDATE @2.15pm: Man arrested after Melbourne motel siege

A man has been arrested after heavily-armed police surrounded a motel in Melbourne's west with their guns drawn.

The 28-year-old's arrest came after the Special Operations Group on Thursday surrounded a room on the upper level of the Westside Hotel in Laverton.

"The man will be interviewed about a number of matters," a police spokeswoman told AAP.

Police have not released details on the suspects or the wider investigation.

The Westside - known locally as the Tarmac - has been robbed multiple times, including an incident in 2012 when notorious criminal Christopher "Badness" Binse used a shotgun to steal $235,000 from Armaguard staff.
