Police has arrested two 16-year-old teenagers in connection with the explosion at a Gurudwara in Germany's western city of Essen, according to German ARD TV network.
The local police on Thursday claimed that this explosion was a "terrorist act" and one of the suspects, Yusuf T has links to regional network of "Lohberger-Brigade", an association of local radical Islamists who sympathise with ISIS.
This brigade comprises of local ISIS sympathisers and the main suspect, 16-year-old Yusuf T is known for his links with the radical Salafists in Germany.
The police, however, is yet to determine if this attack was planned by ISIS.
"We presume it was a terrorist act — religiously motivated terror by the Islamist scene," Essen Police Commissioner Frank Richter said.
Interior Minister of the region, Ralf Jaeger (SPD) said the attack was carried out for ‘religious reasons’.
The blast at the Nanaksar Satsang Sabha Gurudwara in Essen left three people, including a priest, injured.
"We will continue to do everything possible to ensure the protection of the Sikh community in Essen," Richter said. "Our work does not end with the arrest of the two suspects. There are numerous leads that need to be evaluated."
Police also released photos and CCTV footage of two men suspected of planting a backpack containing a bomb in the entrance hall of the Gurudwara.
One of them carried a backpack with the logo "Russel Athletic".
Investigators found the remains of a similar back pack in the debris of the explosion, according to police.
India had expressed "distress" at what has been deemed as a deliberate act from the beginning. Top Indian officials have already taken it up at the highest level as Essen authorities assured India that all steps will be taken to ensure security for all minorities including the Sikhs.
