The Egyptian man – Seif El-din Mustafa, who hijacked an EgyptAir passenger plane was ‘dangerous and unpredictable’, his former wife has claimed in an interview to a newspaper in Cyprus.
Marina Paraschou wed Seif El-din Mustafa in 1985 and they divorced five years later.
Her married life was marred with violence, trauma and repetitive spells of abuse, Marina Paraschou told the newspaper. She also said that her former husband use to beat and threaten his family. She also shared that her husband was ‘on drugs’ and often use to beat them up when there wasn’t enough money to buy them.
51-year-old Ms Paraschou who now lives in Cyprus with her three children said that she had barely been in touch with her husband and their three children had nothing to do with their father.
During the hijacking episode, which made headlines world over, Mustafa demanded to see his former wife.
Marina, who turned out to be cause of hijacking, said her husband had only offered his family “pain, horror and misery.”
The couple lost their fourth child in car accident in 2002 and Ms Paraschou claimed that her husband was so indifferent to their child’s death that he didn’t even attend the funeral.
She has accused her former husband of using her name to seek asylum in Cyprus. She also told the local newspaper that her former husband had been previously deported from Cyprus on several occasions.
Ms Paraschou had helped identify Mustafa’s voice to the authorities when the hijacking drama was going on.
Mustafa is currently in custody in Cyprus and is expected to be extradited to Egypt.
Egyptian authorities meanwhile have revealed that Mustafa has had a long criminal history in Egypt and that they are seeking his extradition from Cyprus.
