Five things you didn’t know about India’s latest sensation – Karun Nair

Indian batsman Karun Nair on Monday grabbed headlines world over after scoring a triple-century in test match against England.

He finished 303 not out as India declared with their highest score in Tests, a massive 759/7, at the iconic MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai.

India's previous highest total in Test cricket was the 726/9 against Sri Lanka in Mumbai in December 2009.

Here are the five things you may not know about India’s latest sensation – Karun Nair.

1. 25-year-old Karun Nair was born in Jodhpur, Rajasthan. His father was transferred to Bangalore and Karun Nair, who started playing cricket at the age of 10, made his first-class debut in the 2013–14 season in which Karnataka won the Ranji Trophy.
2. Karun studied at Chinmayi School till fourth grade after which he switched to the Frank Anthony Public School in Bangalore.
3. Nair made his One Day International (ODI) debut against Zimbabwe on 11 June 2016. On 26 November 2016, he made his Test debut against England at Mohali. He is also played for Royal Challengers Bangalore and Rajasthan Royals in the Indian Premier League before he was signed up by the Delhi Daredevils in 2016.
4. Karun, in his third test, hit a triple century – 303 not-out on Monday against England. He thus became the quickest batsman who has made a maiden triple-hundred in Test cricket history breaking Virender Sehwag’s record.
5. Nair was involved in a boat mishap in Kerala this year during a temple festival, an incident in which a number of people drowned and several others were reported missing. Nair, who did not know to swim, was rescued by a group of locals, according to ESPNCricinfo. On Monday, he was surrounded by family and friends who were thrilled with Nair's new record.
