Studying in a different country can be an incredibly exciting and rewarding experience. As you embark on one of your most important journeys in life, SBS Hindi, is here to help you settle down.

Starting today, we will be sharing some important aspects of International student life in Australia.

FINDING STUDENT ACCOMODATION IN AUSTRALIA

Australia attracts hundreds of thousands of International students every year. Most of the students who have arrived in Australia have arranged for a temporary accommodation with friends or family before arriving here.

Most of the students look for a more-permanent arrangement after arriving in the city where they will be going to the University. If you have done the same, you aren’t the only one. That’s what most of the students do.

Many students choose to partner with other students from the same course or University, to rent a place.

Others become part of an already existing shared-accommodation.

Quite a few also choose to live in college-affiliated student hostels.

Here’s a comprehensive list of different types of accommodation available in Australia.

These mainly include:

-          On campus accommodation

-          College-affiliated student dorms/accommodation

-          Home-stay (where you live with a local family for the duration of your studies)

-          Renting an off-campus house

-          Becoming a part of Shared-Accommodation

Most Universities have 'housing services' departments that can provide information and assistance. It is a good idea to visit them.

If you choose to partner up with few friends you have recently made in Australia to rent or lease a house, make sure, everyone’s name is included in the lease agreement and everyone shares the bond.
Each state in Australia provides information about a tenant’s rights and responsibilities. Do not forget to read this before you sign a lease agreement. This information is vital and underlines your rights and responsibilities as a tenant.
Another way of learning more about your rental rights and obligations is by downloading the RentRight app, which offers comprehensive information for first-time and current renters.

Points to consider before choosing your accommodation:

-          How much time it takes to reach University

-          What is the cost of transport from home to university

-          What will be the rent payment method?

-          Is the house furnished or un-furnished?

-          Does the accommodation come with basic appliances like cooking range, refrigerator, heater/air conditioner and microwave?

-          Whether you are required to pay utility bills like electricity, water, gas, internet, phone above your rent or is it included?

-          Is it close to public transport, shopping and Indian grocery stores?
