India celebrates 69th Republic Day

India is today celebrating its 69th Republic Day. The wide-spread celebrations have begun at the Rajpath with President Ram Nath Kovind hoisting the tri-color in the presence of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the heads of the ASEAN nations and other dignitaries.

In the presence of leaders of the 10 ASEAN nations, who are attending the Republic Day parade as chief guests, India celebrates its Republic Day.

In the presence of the ASEAN nations and other respected leaders, the family members of the martyrs were felicitated by Hon. President of India.
On occasion, the country will showcase military prowess, culture, and diversity. 

Every year on this day the Winners of prestigious Padma Vibhushan, Padma Bhushan, and Padma Shri Award announced. A person from each of the 10 ASEAN nations was named for the Padma Shri, one of the country's top civilian awards, as an ode to 25 years of India's partnership with the Southeast Asian grouping.

The 85 Padma awardees this year — which include three Padma Vibhushan, nine Padma Bhushan and seventy-three Padma Shri. Some of the known fellows are, music composer Ilaiyaraaja (Padma Vibhushan), Hindustani classical music exponent Ghulam Mustafa Khan (Padma Vibhushan), cricketer M S Dhoni, Bhojpuri singer Sharda Sinha , painter Laxman Pai, snooker player Pankaj Advani (all Padma Bhushan), men's singles shuttler Kidambi Srikanth, actor Manoj Joshi and tennis player Somdev Devvarman (all Padma Shri).

 

This year's highlights of the Parade:

Two tableaux will showcase India's historical, civilizational, educational, religious and cultural ties with the ASEAN nations. The parade will feature illustrations from 14 States and Union territories, nine ministries, departments and central paramilitary forces.
Among the most anticipated spectacles at the parade are stunts on motorcycles by 'Seema Bhawani' - a group of 113 women from the Border Security Force or BSF. They are the first all-women contingent from any force to perform biking stunts at the parade.

The Air Force tableau will display models of the home-made Tejas Multirole Fighter Aircraft, Rudra Helicopter, Arudhra Radar and Akash missile system.
