Indian-American students have secured the top three spots in this year’s prestigious National Geographic Bee championship finals.
12-year-old Rishi Nair, a sixth grader from Florida took top spot at the annual National Geographic Bee held at the National Geographic headquarters in Washington.
This is the fifth consecutive year that an Indian-American has won the prestigious national tournament.
Rishi received a USD 50,000 college scholarship and a lifetime membership in the National Geographic Society.
14-year-old Saketh Jonnalagadda, an eighth grader from Massachusetts was the runner up and recipient of the USD 25,000 college scholarship.
The third place was claimed by yet another Indian-Origin student, 12-year-old Kapil Nathan, a sixth grader from Alabama who won USD 10,000 college scholarship.
That’s not all. Seven of the 10 finalists were Indian-Americans and the presence of Indian-Origin kids did not go unnoticed by the large audience and many took to Twitter to share that.
