A 20-year-old Indian-origin student in the UK died unexpectedly after getting infected by a rare Meningitis virus.
Evening Standard wrote Paawan Purba, who was a pharmacology student and was about to begin second year of her degree at the University of East London died at a hospital on 27th August.
She displayed none of the symptoms of the disease and died within 48 hours after she fell ill, according to the report.
Evening Standard wrote Paawan felt ill and was advised rest by her GP.
24 hours after being ill, losing appetite and suffering from body aches, when Paawan’s mother slept next to her, she whispered to her “whatever you do, do not leave me” before she went to sleep. But next day morning, Paawan was breathing heavily and was unresponsive. She was rushed to hospital where she died at 7.45am.
"The sadness is beyond belief. I keep looking at the door thinking my beautiful, bubbly daughter will come home and we will all be together again," Ms Purba's father Mr Baldev Purba was quoted saying in 'Evening Standard'.
The family has urged the health authorities in UK to create more awareness about meningitis among university students. Mr. Purba is now spearheading a campaign to raise awareness around the Men W strain of Meningitis, which is on the rise in England.
"Our daughter is gone but if we can help raise awareness of what needs to be done to save others than maybe we can prevent this happening to another family," he said.
