They have spent 81 years together.

An Indian origin couple – Jeram Ravji and his wife Ganga Ravji have been awarded New Zealand’s longest-married couple award by a Christian group.

They both are turning 100 in May and June respectively this year.

The couple together have six children, 15 grandchildren and 25 great-grandchildren. And the beauty is – all of them live in Auckland.

Jeram and Ganga have known each other since they were 6 years old. They got married at 19.

They also took part in India’s freedom struggle and Jeram was imprisoned for 10 months for joining Mahatma Gandhi’s satyagraha against the British rule.

NZ Herald reported that the Jeram moved to New Zealand in 1928. He spent a few years in India, in between where he got married to Ganga and again moved back with his wife and family in 1953.

The couple shared the secret of their long life and married life with the New Zealand paper and said “"(The advice) we would give to our children if they had difficulties with their marriage would be you have to work hard, you have to have tolerance - that's the most important part, tolerance."

Despite fighting the British rule in India, Ravjis said they were looking forward to receiving their letter from the Queen when they turn 100 this year.
