New Zealanders have have until 24th March 2016 to choose between the existing design and an alternative option (pictured above) of the national flag.
The alternative design option - Silver Fern (Black, White and Blue) - by architect Kyle Lockwood was selected in December 2015 after the first referendum.
Prime Minister of New Zealand John Key and others have argued the country needs a more distinctive flag to showcase its identity.
People in favor of change have argued that the present flag looks similar to Australia's.
But this referendum has has been controversial with many commenting on the shortlisted designs and the amount - NZ$27m ($18m) - spent on referendum.
In an interview given to Radio New Zealand, the Prime Minister, who backs the alternative option, said - "If they don't vote for change now, they'll never get another chance until we become a republic."
