22-year-old Sigaragh ‘Steve’ Baea, guilty of murdering his friend Wishhasad’s mother Prasad Somawansa at her Hoppers Crossing home in Melbourne, was sentenced to 22 years of imprisonment by Victorian Supreme Court today.
He will spend at least 17 years behind bars for stabbing his school friend's mother to death as her husband listened helplessly on the phone, AAP reports.
Baea pleaded guilty to murdering his friend's 48-year-old mother on February 18, 2016.
Court documents had earlier revealed that Steve allegedly killed his friend’s mother over a lost public transport travel card.
ABC wrote that he confessed his crime to the police. He told them, he had gone to Prasad’s house to look for his Myki card.
Prasad refused to let him in.
"I told her I wanted to get my Myki card and then she ... told me to piss off," he told police.
"I got angry and I stabbed her, then I went up to get my Myki card but it wasn't there."
