Man takes off to Britain allegedly on Chandigarh NRI’s stolen passport

Chandigarh police are searching for a man who flew out of India on the stolen passport of a non-resident Indian.

Hira Singh, a resident Chandigarh in Punjab had reported that his passport was stolen. He applied for an emergency passport. During the verification process, it was found that someone had already flown out of India using Hira Singh’s passport, the Hindustan Times reported.

A case has been registered against an unidentified person on a complaint by Hira Singh, who has alleged misuse of his passport.

Hira Singh is a resident of sector 41, Chandigarh. He told the Hindustan Times that he had travelled to New Delhi from the UK on December 4 and his passport was stolen. He filed a case at a police station in Chandigarh on December 17.

Hira Singh received an emergency passport on December 27 which is valid until January 6.

During the passport verification, authorities found that Hira Singh’s passport was used to fly out from Mumbai on December 15.

A detailed report was sent to Ministry of Home Affairs regarding the matter. The police requested to get Hira Singh’s immigration record checked by the Bureau of Immigration. A reply received saying that on UK national Hira Singh had already left India for the UK, but his camera image may appear to be different, The Tribune reports.

A case has been registered against an unidentified person.
