Gujarat has been put on high alert since Saturday following an intelligence input from Pakistan.
Pakistan’s National Security Advisor Nasir Khan has alerted his Indian Counterpart Ajit Doval that 10 terrorists belonging to Lashkar-e-Toiba and Jaish-e-Mohammad have entered India’s western state, Gujarat, which also shares its borders with the neighbouring country.
Local newspaper reports have suggested that this is aimed at creating disturbance in the society around the Indian festival of Shivratri, celebrated by Hindus.
Following this input, security has been stepped up at key and sensitive installations, places of worship and prominent public places across the state.
Security Agencies have been placed on high alert and the state Director General of Police PC Thakur also convened an emergency meeting on the issue.
This is for the first time ever, intelligence on terror related activities has been shared by Pakistan.
