Indian Prisoner Kirpal Singh, who died under mysterious circumstances in a Pakistani jail, was cremated in home town, Gurdaspur, today.
Kirpal Singh was accused by Pakistan of having crossed the border in 1992. He was arrested under the charges of spying and carrying out a bomb blast for which he was sentenced to death. Pakistan’s High Court had acquitted Kirpal of the bomb blast charges but did not revoke his death sentence.
On April 11th, Kirpal Singh was found dead inside the jail and one week later, his body was handed over to his family on Tuesday.
Dr B S Bal, Principal of Government Medical College Amritsar, told reporters after an autopsy of Kirpal Singh's body that "during the postmortem examination, it was found that his heart as well as stomach were missing. However, no internal and external injury was found on his body".
Bal said "now we have his kidney and liver and samples of these two organs would be sent outside Amritsar for laboratory tests to bring out more facts with regard to his death".
Family members suspect foul play.
"When I saw my uncle's body, it bore injury marks. He did not die of cardiac arrest. He was tortured to death," alleged Ashwani Kumar, Kirpal's nephew, who received his uncle's body at the Attari-Wagah border after Pakistan handed it over to Border Security Force officials.
My uncle has given up his life for the nation. As he was the only witness in Sarabjit Singh's death, the Pakistan government feared this revelation (the truth about how Sarabjit died) so they plotted to kill him," he added.
