Melburnians turned out in huge numbers to celebrate and participate in the annual Moomba parade, part of Australia's largest community festival.
Witnessed by thousands Melburnians, Moomba Parade featured more than 1,800 performers, including professional and amateur dance troupes, cultural performers and school groups.
This year’s Moomba monarchs were the Melbourne Cup-winning jockey Michelle Payne and her strapper brother Stevie Payne. The brother-sister duo waved to thousands in the crowd as they enjoyed their place in the limelight on the red and gold float.

Some of the floats were designed by Melbourne children, including an elephant float created by a nine-year-old whose grandmother performed in the parade 60 years ago.
A huge black and gold pirate ship float was designed by a six-year-old.

The carnival will wrap up with water skiing on the Yarra River, music events and fireworks at 9:30pm.
