Have Pollution Masks in Delhi become more of a fashion statement than a dire necessity? India's News Analyst and Delhi based Columnist Sudhish Pachauri is of the opinion that business men are making a fortune selling pollution masks in the bazars of Delhi, so much so that, "they are running out of the pollution masks and now some vendors are selling them at hiked prices and in Black!"
Reporters in the streets of Delhi are trying to give reports with the mask on their mouth! Pachauri says, "This leads to the voice of the reporter being muffled and then they tear off the mask from their face. I think these masks are becoming more of a fashion statement. What one needs to truly worry about is the poor and homeless people of Delhi."
The good news however, is that today the smog in Delhi has abated. Mother Nature has done what the State or Federal Government of India could not achieve. Pachauri adds with a smile that, "nature has her own way of taking over the problems created by human beings. A gentle breeze is blowing around Delhi lifting the smog and the sun is shining today." As he gazes out of his window he can clearly see the buildings across the road, "without his glasses" he adds with a chuckle.
