A Class 12 student was out celebrating with his friends in New Delhi on Monday night. Around 8.30pm that night, he allegedly hit 32-year-old Siddharth Sharma and drove away.
Siddharth Sharma was flung almost 20 feet into air before crashing onto ground, witnesses have told Indian media. A marketing consultant in Delhi, Sharma was rushed to the hospital but he did not survive.
The boy was arrested under laws for underage offenders and released on bail. The Police say action will be taken against his father, who owns the car and allegedly allowed his minor son to drive.
32-year-old Sidharth Sharma was returning home that night after buying takeout from a noodle stand when the Mercedes rammed into him and hit him at the Civil Lines area. The family members have now created a Facebook page and shared the shocking CCTV footage which clearly shows that the Mercedes was speeding.
The Mercedes crashed onto the footpath and its front tyres burst before it stopped. The driver and his friends abandoned the car and ran away.
A witness has told the police that the boys in the car appeared to be teenagers.
A case of negligent driving amounting to murder has been registered but the under-age driver has been let out on bail as the Mercedes owner’s driver has now owned responsibility for the accident.
