Well, here’s some good news for you.
According to government’s Internet Vacancy Index (IVI) Job vacancies are rising!
IVI is a report published by the Department of Employment and is the only publicly available source of detailed data on online vacancies.
It includes around 350 occupations (at all skill levels) as well as for all states/territories and 37 regions.
The report for April 2016, says that vacancies rose by 2.8% to 165,578 in April after seasonal adjustments.
The increase in vacancies was broad-based.
While Tasmania recorded an enormous 8.8% gain, only the Northern Territory (NT) saw vacancies drop 0.5%.
All other states and territories recorded an increase in positions advertised.
The largest increases came from the Australian Capital Territory (ACT) and New South Wales, a rise of more than 13% apiece.
Vacancies increased in all eight occupation groups, led by a 7.1% jump in sales positions.
This was followed closely by openings for clerical and administrative workers, machinery operators and drivers, and labourers with an increases of more than 5%.
Overall, vacancies rose in all groups aside from those in community and personal services.

The IVI survey is based on a count of online job advertisements lodged on SEEK, CareerOne and Australian JobSearch.
The survey does not capture all available vacancies such as the one on employer websites, word of mouth and newspapers.
