Trends that are making the right noise

1. Sararah App

If this social messaging app hasn’t popped up in your social media accounts, emails or in conversations with your mates, you should probably look for a rock. Sararah, which translates to ‘honesty’ in Arabic was created by Saudi developer Zain Alabdin Tawfiq. The app lets you leave anonymous feedback for your co-workers, friends or bosses or whoever you want to leave some feedback for.

2. Game of Thrones

Right off the bat let me mention I haven’t seen a single episode of the series that first aired in 2011. I am in that minority but the fever of GOT (Game of Thrones) is so gripping that even if you are on some kind of antibiotics you will still catch it! Last two weeks, travelling in the train, tram or even switching on the television has been about ‘Did you watch Game of Thrones?’ The seventh season of the show concluded this week and the next season will be aired in 2018.

3. Afterpay

Have you seen this word plastered around the shop windows, in your emails, all over the internet? Afterpay is a digital service that lets you pay off any purchase in installments. Think of it as laybuy in reverse. You pay a small amount and take the product home with you instead of leaving it in the store or online. So now you don’t have to wait for paydays to buy that jacket, that lipstick or that laptop. In today’s age of trends that are ‘own it now, wear it today’, Afterpay comes as a blessing for shopaholics!

4. Squiggly Eyebrows

Also called the wavy eyebrows, this is one trend that has divided the social media in ‘praise club’ or ‘hate club’. Akin to a slithering snake sitting atop your eyes, the eyebrows are drawn in a wavy shape. We personally feel it should be called ‘drunk eyebrows’! What do you think of the trend?

5. Tassel Earrings

This is for all the ladies who love some dangling earpieces. From actress Deepika Padukone to Kareena Kapoor Khan to Hollywood actresses Natalie Portman and Julianne Moore, everyone is getting obsessed with tassel fabric earrings in bold colours. The trend has watered down to high street and a walk around your neighborhood shopping centre will give you an idea of how big the trend is.  Buy a pair before it gets out of trend.

Trends that are dying a slow death

1. Snapchat's Dog Filter

The social media application is known to bring out interactive filters. One of them was the ‘dog filter’ that was quite a rage when it was first launched a couple of years ago. We have seen the Kylie Jenners’ of the world sticking their tongue out far too many times to be ‘in love’ anymore. Do the world a favour, give this filter a rest.
