Diabetes could cost you your leg if you don't pay attention to your health!

Do you know that every year 4,500 out of 10,000 Australians are diagnosed with diabetes and their toes, feet or limbs have been removed. They required hospital treatment related to their foot ulcers and foot problem each year and it costs Australia economy around 875 million dollars a year. But 85% of these cases are preventable, said Ramon Varcoe and Greg Johnson.

Therefore Diabetes experts are meeting in Sydney to discuss and find solutions to stop the number of amputations in order to save the limbs, the lives and hospital budget.
"We can reduce all of that and we want to reduce all of that and we want to reduce all of that, the answer is not simple, it is not one thing or the other, its many things that need to happen, but the fundamental opportunity right now is that most things won't change in our health systems without governments deciding that it's an important priority and sending a signal and spending some money." Diabetes Australia Chief Executives Greg Johnson
Endovascular surgeon Profession Ramon Varcoe specializes in secularization, which get the blood flow back into the limbs said that if we get the proper treatment we can prevent amputation.
"Each step of the way provides new opportunities for us to improve the supports we have for these people, so people with early diabetic foot ulcers can be screened and managed appropriately in the first instance through better equipped and more consistence multidisciplinary foot clinics. And then when we get to the end stage when I'm really fighting that final battle, I think we need to bring all practitioners up to a certain standard that's consistent across the country." Said Ramon Varcoe.
