10 things that other people abuse or breach seniors' rights you should know.


10 things you should know why older people are being abused and their rights are not respected:

1. Globally there are up to 10% of older people who were abused and did not report.

2. Elder abuse either once or repeated incidents, being neglected, lack of care, make them feel hopeless and distrust others can actually contribute to anxiety and depression.

3. Elder abuse can take many forms either physical abuse, psychological abuse, financial abuse, and neglect, or lacks of proper care.

4. 90% of family members are those who abuse elder people or do not respect their rights.

5. Sometimes it is unclear and hard to identify if little thing other people do to them is abusing them as they tend to keep it to themselves.

6. We commonly see people abuse the power of attorney to abuse older people's rights, to take their financial control, and to strip off their legal rights.

7. The United Nations encourages freedom, participation, have the right to care, have the right to live self-fulfilled, and dignified life.

8. Older people who speak other language other than English are more likely to be abused by their family members or by their friends.

If that senior person speak other language other than English and need language services, call the National Translating and Interpreting Service (TIS)  on 13 14 50 so interpreters will assist them in their own languages.
