"Girls growing up not just to get married, we can do other stuffs like men too," said Samantha Vang to be Representative Member for House 40B.

Recent US mid-term election has seen many minorities elected into politics ranging from different background namely Asian, African and Hispanic, mostly elected to Democrats which help it wins the US Lower House or the House of Representative.

For Hmong communities there are 15 candidates who were contesting for this mid-term election and 11 are elected.

Currently Hmong has 6 county district judges and many Hmong politicians in Lower House mostly in Minnesota and some in California.

Ms Samantha Vang is one of many Hmong candidates who are elected to be representative member for House 40B, Brooklin Park, Minneapolis in the lower house of Minnesota.

She said that being girls growing up are nurtured and taught to behave and later to get married and be a good wife, but for her she doesn't just want to just grow up and get married, but want to do other stuffs like men too, and having a good education can open door of opportunities.

Ms Vang is major in political science and she has devoted her time to help communities and also get involved with politics since she was in high school never thought that one day she would be a politician.

She said that growing up seeing marginalized communities and see how hard life is in color of communities in Minnesota, she want to change the myth and improving the communities which she lives.

The most important things she would like to suggest to anyone who want to achieve in their lives is education, study hard, parents need to support their kids education. We have to find out what our talents are and pursue them, get volunteering in the fields that we want to do to get us ready, and when the time comes, we would be ready to take on the world.
