Zalue Xiong, a Hmong student from Laos who has got Australian scholarship to study Electrical Engineering at Flinders University at Adelaide, South Australia said that, he has tried so many time until he has succeed his scholarship to study in Australia.
There are many reasons why Hmong students cannot get the Australian scholarship, Mr. Xiong said. First, most of Hmong students live in the country and don't have much opportunity to study English or do not know much about scholarships or how to go about the process to receive one.
Besides, he also mentioned that studying in Australia is totally different from studying in Laos just for the paper. But in Australia we study hard, do plenty of reading, pay attention to your study, properly handle your live and your finance and any ideas that you quote, you must cite the reference or the sources which mean you cannot simply plagiarizing. But most importantly, do not procrastinate to study.
Mr. Xiong said that, if you face difficulties either academic or family issues, finance or other issues, you should inform that university. If you don't notify them they would not know that you experience any trouble. He said that, some of the scholarship funds is assigned for some tutor to help Lao students if they have any problem relating to their study.
Due to many Laos students has studied Business and Administration, the Australia government will no offer this field but will substitute with other fields which are highly demand in Laos such as engineers and other fields.
The conditions of Australian Scholarship are also tightened. There will be scholarship for tertiary to study at bachelor degree and master or PhD. The applicants who want to apply the scholarship should have at least 4 years experience working relating the field they are applying. It also depends on their International English Laguange Testing System (IELTS) score to decide whether they want to do the English for Academic Purpose foundation or they can either study right away with their preferred universities.
So Mr. Xiong would like to tip any student from Laos who want Australian Scholarship to study in Australia to keep trying their best and keep trying until they get one.#
