Such a meeting between the two, while being friendly and informal in nature, highlights the underlining importance of a closer and stronger Indonesia-Australia relationship, as well as outlining both parties’ commitments to making it happen.
“Learning a language is the window into another countries society and culture, which leads to increased cultural awareness and understanding of that country” noted Consul General Subolo during a friendly chat about languages during the luncheon. “I would like to sincerely thank you for your ongoing love and support of Indonesia shown through your continued efforts to learn Bahasa Indonesia and in turn your efforts to understand Indonesian culture” he said to Governor Hurley, who has been learning Indonesian language for several years.
H. E General the Hon David Hurley is the 38th Governor of New South Wales, commencing his position in 2014. Prior to his appointment as Governor, His Excellency served for 42 years in the Australian Army.
“I see a stronger Indonesia-Australia relationship as being critical in the future for our two countries and deepening my Indonesian language is the commitment I can make on a personal level to start realising that stronger relationship” responded Governor Hurley.
Their friendly chat in the private luncheon which lasted for about one and half hours, was then concluded with a photo session.
