Kristiani Herrawati binti Sarwo Edhi Wibowo, or better known as Ani Yudhoyono, is currently in Singapore to undergo a medical treatment at the National University Hospital.

The former First Lady of Indonesia who had been officiating from 2004 to 2014 is suffering from blood cancer.

This information became public knowledge after former Indonesian president Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono, commonly called SBY, gave an official statement about his wife's condition on Wednesday.

"I am conveying this to all the friends in the country with a deeply concern that Mrs Ani has blood cancer, and therefore has to undergo intensive treatment and care at the National University Hospital in Singapore."

Mrs Yudhoyono has undergone this treatment since 2 February based on the recommendation of the Indonesian presidential medical team.

Agus Harimurti Yudhoyono (AHY), the eldest son of SBY and Mrs. Yudhoyono, said that this information shocks the family because there were no significant symptoms previously.

"What is clear is that previously there were no symptoms that were of concern, but it turned out that this type of cancer was quite aggressive so that Mrs Ani's condition has declined quite rapidly," AHY said.

Sutopo Purwo Nugroho, Head of the Data, Information and Public Relations of the National Disaster Management Agency (BNPB), expressed his support and prayers for Mrs. Yudhoyono.

Mr Nugroho, who is also a survivor of stage 4B lung cancer as written in his Twitter bio, said that this illness is a test of patience and strength.
Ani Yudhoyono became a highlight in Australia and the world especially after her name was included in one of the names of important people in SBY's inner circle who were reported to have been tapped by Australian intelligence in 2013.

The Australian Intelligence Agency reportedly tracked SBY's telephone activities for 15 days in August 2009 when Kevin Rudd served as Prime Minister.

SBY asks for prayers from the nation for his wife's recovery.
