As a form of expression of grief, care and to pray for the victims of the earthquake and tsunami in Palu and Donggala in Sulawesi, the Indonesian Embassy in Canberra held an interfaith prayer on 5 October 2018.
"Through this joint interfaith prayer, we want to show that the victims are not alone. They have friends in Australia, both Indonesian and Australian, who are ready to help them when facing difficult situations," said the Indonesian Ambassador to Australia, Y. Kristiarto S. Legowo.
One of the attendees was Tom Connor, Assistant Secretary for the Southeast Asia Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade (DFAT).

"Indonesia and Australia are neighbours and become good partners who help each other in troubles. Australia will always remember assistance from Indonesia during the forest fires in Victoria in 2009. For tsunami victims in Palu and Sulawesi, the Australian Government provides assistance of $ 5.5 million", he said.
Prayers were delivered by each representative from five religions - Islam, Catholic, Christian, Hindu, Buddhist - alternately.
During the event, a young diplomat from Indonesian Embassy in Canberra, Cerya Paramita, conveyed the various steps that have been taken by the Indonesian Government, specifically the search, rescue and evacuation efforts, distribution of basic needs, medical treatment and procedures for distributing foreign aid, including from Australia.
