The Directorate General of Immigration through its social media account on Monday said that they will reopen registration for Work and Holiday Visa, allowing Indonesian and Australian youth to work and have vacation.
The program aimed at increasing the experience and building networks of the youth of the two neighbouring countries began in 2009, which initially only provided 100 quota per year.

On 3 July 2012 the then Prime Minister Julia Gillard announced that Australia will significantly increase the number of work and holiday visas available to Indonesians, from 100 to 1,000 places per year.

Speaking via telephone with SBS Indonesian, the Immigration Consul of the Indonesian Consulate in Sydney Mr Made Tony Nuryana says that registration of this type of visa would be 'reopened' after the annual quota expires at the end of the Australian financial year on 30 June.

Mr. Nuryana adds this visa that can only be held once in a lifetime by an Indonesian citizen is quite attractive, thus those who are interested are better to submit the applications as soon as possible after registration is opened.

To be eligible for this visa, Indonesian youth must meet several requirements, including having to obtain the Indonesian Government Recommendation Letter (SRPI) issued by the Directorate General of Immigration.

This visa is for tertiary-educated people, aged between 18 to 30 years old, who want to travel and work in Australia for up to 12 months. This visa allows the holder to help finance their holiday through a temporary or freelance employment period.

The Directorate General of Immigration has yet to announce the date of the visa registration, but advises the public to monitor the updates through its social media.
