To celebrate its 30th birthday, Clarence Jazz Festival of Tasmania has selected 16 Jazz composers from the area. For nine months, these 16 Clarence Composers Collective worked collaboratively. They will showcase their works at the Clarence Jazz Festival which will be held on the 19 -22 Feb 2026.


ade ishs is an Indonesian-born musician, one of the 16 selected composers. He will be performing his new work with Elly Hoyt, another Tasmanian composer. ade ishs explains to SBS Indonesian why he choses Elly Hoyt and what kind of music he has created.

ade ishs also describes his composing processes and how he collaborated with other musicians.

On the question of the use of AI in composing music, at the moment ade ishs prefers to do without it. And he explains why.
