Anthony Albanese has landed in Shanghai for the start of a week-long diplomatic visit to China, where the prime minister hopes to strengthen ties with Australia's biggest trading partner.

PM Albanese faces a precarious task in navigating Australia's complex relationship with its most important trading partner during his week-long visit.

Despite these tensions, the start of his tour was spent launching a new campaign to encourage Chinese tourists to visit Australia, and a morning walk along Shanghai's historic Bund area to promote the two countries' interpersonal relationship.
